So Mr. Richter....How do you plan to solve the budget shortfall? Thirty-Eight billion dollars is a lot of cash!

So it is, so we will need to get creative. That's why I am promoting corporatization of the state! Here's how it would work:
Companies love to advertise, and they make a habit of shelling out large amounts of cash to do so. Let's give the companies in this state the opportunity to advertise in a new way. For example, let's take the name of our state....California. Truly a great name! Now drastic times call for drastic measures, so let's put the name up for sale. For 10 years, we'll call our state 3COMifornia for the bargain price of one billion dollars. See...now the deficit is only 37 billion. Or how about CaliFORDia?

The CaliFORDia state highway system has 16,662.16 miles of highway. We'll just call it 16,500 for a nice round number. Let's say we average $500K for a 10 mile section. (After all, 101 through San Francisco would be worth a lot more than a section between Fresno and Bakersfield! ((No offense to anyone in Fresno or Bakersfield, especially if you're planning to vote for me))). Before you know it, all that will remain is a vague recollection of the 38 billion dollar deficit that once plagued this state.

Ten years later, it's back to business as usual in California!
